About Us.

Music for the Gut is… a Spectacular Summer Event!

• we are top Saskatchewan talent!

• performing pop, rock and musical theatre

• in small and large Gut Ensembles!

• many featuring our talented Gut Danseurs!

• accompanied by our fabulous 14-piece orchestra, Gut Banda!

• a very unique concert!

• performed at TCU Place in Saskatoon, SK, Canada in late August

• nearly every number features multiple vocal soloists!

• songs and solos arranged by our artistic director, and concert founder — Jordie Hughton.

• the Hughton family, concert founders, were honoured to receive the prestigious National Finkelstein Award from Crohn's and Colitis Canada — in Toronto — Nov 2019 — on behalf of our Music for the Gut family!

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.

• as of 2023 - 322,600 Canadians live with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

• two main IBD forms are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis

• these diseases inflame the lining of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and disrupt a person’s ability to digest food, absorb nutrition, and eliminate waste in a healthy manner.

• Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is the world’s second largest health charity funder of Crohn’s and colitis research

• only national, volunteer-based charity focused on finding the cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis

• improving the lives of children and adults affected by these diseases.

• shockingly… the number of new diagnoses is rising most rapidly… in children under 6 years old…

Concert Founders.

• three members of the Hughton family, live with IBD…

• as do many of our Music for the Gut performers and crew…

• mom, Tara (Concert Producer) diagnosed in 1988 with Crohn’s Disease

• as was Jamey (MC) at age 13…

• and to our disbelief… Jordie (Artistic Director) with Ulcerative Colitis in 2010

• dad, Basil (Sponsor Development) has been our biggest support.

History.

• Music for the Gut’s concept was co-founded by our artistic director, Jordie Hughton and his good friend, and our early years, concert pianist, Yuli Chen.

• our family met with Saskatoon Chapter President, Joel Frey, and CCC rep, Janelle Ocrane, to discuss third party concert procedures.

• and so it began…

14 years.

• 2011-2013 — Grace Westminster United Church - presented by Spicy Garden

  • Year 1 — 18 performers — raised $2,755

  • Year 3 — 36 performers

  • $22,758 raised our first 3 years.

• 2014-2017 — Cornerstone Church

  • two completely different programs for years 5,6,&7

  • Year 7 — 55 performers

  • contributed $79,606 these 4 years

  • bringing our total to $102,364 for 7 years.

• 2018-2019 — TCU Place — presented by Miners Construction

  • Year 9 — 71 performers — 90 crew — 928 patrons!

  • raised $46,988 from our 8th & 9th TCU Place concerts

  • and two Spring Showcases:

    • at Mayfair United Church

    • and Grace Westminster United Church

  • $149,352 in contributions over 9 years!

• 2020-2021 — Spring/20 Showcase @ Grace Westminster United Church

  • and 3 Virtual events:

    • Fall/20 — 3 evenings presented by the Bode family

    • Spring/21 — 2 evenings from YouTube

    • Fall/21 Virtual from TCU Place on ConcertStream.tv

  • raising $23,306 over these 2 years.

• 2022 — TCU Place — presented by Miners Construction

  • raising $10,627 for our 10th Anniversary in our 12th year.

• 2023 — TCU Place — 92 performers! — 1,053 patrons!

  • raising $13,592 — a positive re-building year with no title sponsor.

• 2024 — TCU Place — presented by Saskatoon & District Lions Clubs

  • raising $20,557 — 106 performers! — 967 patrons!

• 14 years — $217,434 — contributed to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada!
